Apothecary - Barber Bowl
These bowls were used by barbers when shaving people. Also used when bleeding people to collect the blood. The cut in the rim of the bowl served to rest the arm in when bleeding or fit against the neck for shaving.
This bowl is handpainted using underglazes on porcelain. The design is consistent with those found on 19th century bleeding and barber bowls.
